A blend of Mexican and Mayan culture is still predominant in Playa del Carmen. A distinct kind of folk Catholicism is observed in the area. People in Playa del Carmen are also quite conservative. It is important to dress appropriately when going on tours to different sites, such as churches. Locals in Playa del Carmen also value their environment and actively promote the preservation of their natural treasures. Thus, it is important to abide by the rules and regulations set forth when visiting archaeological sites or when scuba diving in the reef areas.

Spanish is the official language however English is spoken widely across the country and most tourist areas.

There are no recommended vaccinations in order to travel to Mexcio. Pregnant women or those considering becoming pregnant should not travel to Mexico as Zika virus is a risk at a level 2.

The weather in January is warm. The average temperature is in the mid-70s. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses and comfortable clothing and footwear.
